Hi, my name is Pamela, but everyone calls me Pam. I'm a wife and mom of 2. I'm a self-taught graphic designer and creative entrepreneur. I live in Elkton, Kentucky where I'm the creative business owner and designer of Morgan Day Designs. Some of my favorite things include designing, coffee, flip flops, and exploring (old places are my favorite).
I've truly been blessed to have been able to be a business owner for more than 10 years. However, Morgan Day Designs didn't happen overnight- there were actually several businesses that lead up to this one. Let me start from the beginning so you can get a better picture of my business journey.
After graduating college with a bachelor's degree in Accounting, I worked as an accountant for two companies before making the decision to start an accounting business. It was a great experience, but I quickly realized this wasn't meant for me to peruse any longer. Working for myself was always a dream of mine and I've always been a creative person!
In 2010 my husband and I opened a consignment shop in our little town. We were so excited but let me tell you, consignment shops are a lot of work and make very little money! In the meantime, this is when I started crafting. I had a room in the back of the store where I would make things to sell in our store.
I love being creative and making things with my hands. It's so satisfying to see something that I've made come to life. And it's even more satisfying when someone buys it!
The very first thing I started making was custom cake carriers. They sold like hot cakes, so I then started making those huge mesh wreaths. People went crazy for them! After a short time, I added shirts, decals, tumblers, key chains and wood signs to the mix.
In 2012, I decided to open an Etsy shop and start a website called Vinyl Dezignz to sell these items I was making. I was having so much fun, I never felt like I was at work, and I was quickly able to earn a living from it. So, I closed the accounting business and the consignment shop. Without batting an eyelash, because it felt like this is what I was meant to do.
Graphic t-shirts, raglans and hoodies eventually became my best sellers and I parted ways with the other items I was making. I really loved creating the graphic shirts, but I soon realized that I loved the designing part so much more and Vinyl Dezignz didn't allow much time for that. I was blessed to stay so busy, but I wanted to transition into just selling my designs digitally.
So, in early 2015, Vinyl Dezignz became Morgan Day Designs. I design all of my commercial use designs specifically with cutting machines, sublimation, direct to garment printing and home printers in mind. This allows other crafters and craft businesses to create beautiful products without having to worry about the design element.
In late 2017, my business started to shift in an unexpected direction. I didn't act on it for 2 years, because I let fear keep me from pivoting in a new direction. This was a mistake - I should have embraced the change and ran with it! When I finally recognized what needed to be done, I was excited to see how the new path will play out. The new path brought me to rebrand and revamp MDD. Now there are three main parts to MDD: graphics, courses, and coaching.
I know what it's like to feel inspired and excited about starting a creative business, but also feel completely overwhelmed and clueless about where to start. That's why my main focus is teaching others how to build, grow, and scale their creative businesses in the online space.
Running my own business is hard work, but it's also incredibly rewarding. Every day is a new adventure and I love it! I hope that I can be an inspiration in your creative business adventures.
